Quote & Some Late News

Being a few chapters from the end of Beautiful Darkness, I have been experiencing this feeling myself:

"My test of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter."

-Thomas Helm

Also, I'd just like to share some exciting news, in case there are any Cassandra Clare fans who haven't heard yet - the part of Clary has been cast for the City of Bones movie. The actress's name is Lily Collins, and you can view the full blog post about it on Cassandra Clare's blog here. Also, the cover for City of Fallen Angels, the fourth book in The Mortal Instruments, will be revealed tomorrow morning! Lovely news - feels like I've been waiting for the cover to be revealed so long that I might just spontaneously combust when I actually see it :) And, in other news (that I'm about 6 days late in letting you know about), Last Sacrifice  by Richelle Mead is finally out! It was released on December 7 and is the last book in the Vampire Academy series. I cannot even begin to describe how amazing this series is, so definitely pick it up!

Apologies!

Oh my dears, I am so, so, so sorry. I have the oldest excuse in the book for not updating in so long: I have finals coming up next week, and I'm going crazy trying to prepare for them! But, here's the good news: I recently read an amazing book called Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher. I'm talking life-changing. Not like Harry Potter life-changing, but like To Kill A Mockingbird life-changing, in the sense that it haunts you with it moral conflicts and leaves you devastated and yet hopeful. So, that will (hopefully) be reviewed this weekend! And I also just began the first couple of chapters of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margie Stohl, and I love it! I have a feeling a double review of Beautiful Creatures and its sequel, Beautiful Darkness, will be coming soon ;) Also, I know that my sidebar has been saying that I'm reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner for a loooooong time, and the thing is, I persevered through about half the book before I finally gave up on it and turned to Thirteen Reasons Why. I'm sure I'll finish it after I finish Beautiful Darkness, but I just don't feel like reading something that frustrating anymore.

Meanwhile, it seems like the holidays are fast approaching, and those Starbucks holiday cups are everywhere - the sight of those things just cheers me up, even if the cup isn't mine :)
And because, in recent days, I have begun to despair about the state of human intelligence:

"A bookstore is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking."

-Jerry Seinfeld

Books = Infinite Number Of Lives To Explore

Hey there ;) I'll be super busy today, so I won't be able to get a review up today, and I highly doubt tomorrow as well, so I apologize for that....But, here's our quote!

"Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book."

-Unknown

Devour That Novel!

The first time I saw this quote was in Cornelia Funke's Inkheart (fantastic book, by the way) on the door of Mo's workshop. For those of you who have not read the book, the story centers around a young girl named Meggie who loves books, and her father, Mortimer, who repairs and restores them. He keeps this quote on his workshop door, and when Meggie was young, she was horrified because she thought he was referring to actually eating books :)

"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested."

-Sir Francis Bacon

Fiction vs. Truth!

Our lovely quote today.... although I'm not sure I can say 'our', because I'm not sure if I have any readers at all! Hello? Anybody out there.....? Comment? Formspring me? Vote in the poll? Tell me you agree/disagree with my reviews? ;)

"Fiction reveals truths that reality obscures."

-Jessamyn West

So Very True

Here's our quote, and I'm sure this is one all you bookworms will appreciate :)
"A good book has no ending."

Autumnal Bliss

Quote of the Day, from the song "The Best Day" by Taylor Swift - just thought it was a really sweet song and appropriate for the weather right now...I think that every year, when Thanksgiving rolls around, everyone just kind of loves this feeling of remembering being a kid, being outside and the leaves are falling and their noses are pink with cold and they know that the holidays are coming and the world is beautiful and they have their family.

I'm five years old, it's getting cold, I've got my big coat on
I hear your laugh and look up smiling at you, I run and run
Past the pumpkin patch and the tractor rides, look now, the sky is gold
I hug your legs and fall asleep on the way home

I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
But I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day with you today
-Taylor Swift

So Glad You Dropped By

Hello, and WELCOME! I realize that the whole 'welcome-to-my-blog-let-me-tell-you-how-it-works' post is kind of cliche, but, hey, I'm a new blogger - gotta cut me some slack. Anyhow, my blog is titled 'Confessions of a Bookworm' (in case you happened to have missed the giant bookworm at the top of the page). This is actually a very accurate title, because a) I am a huge bookworm and b) I shall confess many things in this blog - not all of them secrets, but mostly reviews of books (occasionally movies and music as well) and my general musings upon life. That being said, let me tell you a few things about myself. I am a 14-year-old living in San Jose, CA, where the most exciting things that happen have to do with computer chips. I love to read(duh)- I always have my head stuck in a book and I would dearly love to throw anyone who interrupts my reading into a pit full of angry orangutans. However, since I do not have such a pit at my disposal, I make do with giving them a murderous glare and going back to my novel. I also enjoy music (many types), hanging out with friends (I constantly irritate them with gushing about books I love), baking (not always successful, but I try!), and writing (I'm working on getting better at this). I like glitter and the word 'lovely' and laughing so hard I can't breathe. I am stubborn, sarcastic, and terrified that no one is going to read this blog - or people will read it but I'll have no idea that they are reading it, which is almost as bad (this is an ill-disguised plea to stick around for the next few posts and at least give my blog a try - and if you like it, please do comment and/or subscribe!).

I rather seem to have exhausted my capacity for babbling about myself, so with that, I shall leave you be. Just one last thing - in addition to normal posts, I will also be posting a 'quote of the day' on most days, so here's today's, which is one of my all-time favorites -

"Books may well be the only true magic."
-Alice Hoffman
